A natural
playscape
encompasses an entire outdoor space through a diversity of play events
and settings. Applying nature as a medium, a child can walk into any
settings based on their choice of activity.
The design process takes approximately two weeks to complete and the building phase
can last up to a month including several volunteer weekends.
Typically,
a playscape is patterned after the preexisting outdoor facility. It is
important to pattern a design after existing use by preserving the
elements of a playground that are of value and putting them into a more
functional context.
The designs we develop are based on a site interviews, dimensions and
photos. Through the application of 3d landscape software and an
assortment of modeling programs, we are able to provide an approximation
of what the playground would "feel" like in its completed form.
We find that this tool not only helps in the planning process, but it
also can be used to attract assistance such as funders and volunteers.
